About Us!
Founded In 1886
On september 25, 1886 Andrew McCartney and his wife Mattie J. McCartney sold a parcel of land (1 acre and 74 poles) for $1.00 and other valuables of consideration to : A.J. Milton, George W. Vanstorm, William A. Charleston, J. Goss & W.B. Rayhill: The Trustees of Cross Roads Church. The deed was recorded on March 16, 1897 at the clerks office of the court in Craig county.
In 1924 the church was sometimes referred to as Barbours Creek Cross Roads Church according to an entry found in the baptismal roll book. This was probably due to location and the cemetery is referred to as Barbours Creek Cemetery. There are entries referring to the church as Cross Roads Union Church. This name of course relates to Cross Roads being a union church. The church has also been called Cross Roads Christian Church. This name reflects the preachers denomination. But the true name of the church is simply Cross Roads Church as stated in the deed. Cross Roads Church is a Union church open to all denominations of protestant faith. The church was heated by 2 pot-belly stoves one on each side of the snctuary. These two stoves were still in the church when Bobby and Becky Harden got married in 1961.
We believe the Bible is the perfect Word of God.
The Bible is our sole Authority for faith and practice. "That will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works." (2 Timothy 3:13-17)
We
believe that salvation is provided by Jesus Christ and Him alone.
It is through his death, burial and resurrection that men are saved from sin.
It is the blood of Jesus that cleanses us from all sin. Works and religion
cannot save in anyway. The Gospel is the power of God unto Salvation.
Furthermore, we believe that Christ died for all men and upon the conviction of
the Holy Spirit, the repentance of the heart and the confession of the mouth.
Men are Born-Again of God’s Spirit.
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." (Ephesians 2:8-9)
We
believe in the eternal salvation of all believers.
Once a person trusts in Christ, they are forever kept by the power of God and
can never be lost. Salvation is truly everlasting life. However, those who have
trusted Christ are His and will obey Him and His Word. We do not believe a
person can live any way they so desire and be saved. The Bible dogmatically
declares that a person will be a new creature in Christ.
"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature, old things are
passed away; behold, all things are become new." (2 Corinthians
5:17)
We
believe in the Bible doctrine of the Trinity.
We believe in one God, co-existing in three persons, The Father, the Son and
the Holy Spirit. It is the father who planned our salvation, his Son Jesus who
provided our forgiveness and the Spirit of God who seals our state before God.
Furthermore, at the moment of salvation we receive all of God’s Spirit. We do
not get more of God, rather we must surrender more of ourselves to him on a
daily basis.
"For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and
the Holy Ghost: and these three are one." (1 John 5:7)
We
believe that Baptism is a fundamental step of obedience in our walk with
Christ.
While it doesn’t provide any redemptive merit, it does identify us as followers
of Christ and places us in submission to God’s will.
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in
the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the
gift of the Holy Ghost." (Acts 2:38)
"And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen." (Matthew 28:18-20 )
